"Founders of St. Catharines"

ABOVE is an engraving from a portrait of Mrs. A. F. Atkinson, the wife of the second Rector of St. George's Church. With her husband and family, she came to St. Catharines in 1840 and lived for some years in a frame house on Church Street, opposite to the home of Mrs. Henry Miller. About 90 years ago, Dr. and Mrs. Atkinson moved to the present day St. George's Rectory on King Street which has at that time been purchased by the congregation from the Honourable M. Killally.

In the "Founders of St. Catharines" series which The Standard is running on Saturdays, portraits of the old residents of 100 years ago (or thereabouts) are being presented to our readers. Your co-operation is invited in making this series as complete a record of the early days as possible.
