Mary Malcolmson registered the first Canadian Girl Guide Unit in St. Catharines in 1910. In 1950 a commemorative stone in Montebello Park was dedicated by Mrs T.A. Rigby, daughter of Mary Malcolmson, to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Guiding in Canada. A second plaque was added to the stone to commemorate Canada's Centennial.

The First Plaque Reads:
1910-1950, Erected by City of St. Catharines to commemorate the founding of the Girl Guide movement in Canada. 1st company registered in St. Catharines January 1910.

The Second Plaque Reads:
Erected in 1967 to Honour Mrs. A.H. Malcolmson, a member of the I.O.D.E. who started the Girl Guide movement in St. Catharines. 1910.
