House nos. 73 and 73 ½ were originally the home of local shipbuilder Louis Shickluna, built between 1830-1840.
House no. 73 ½, a single dwelling, was originally the kitchen wing of Shickluna’s house.
In the 1970’s the area including 73-83 St. Paul Crescent, along with two buildings on Newton Street, was the focus of a campaign to have 10 wooden buildings designated as historical sites. The buildings were considered important because it was believed they had belonged to the shipbuilder Louis Shickluna. They were also some of the oldest buildings in St. Catharines. The buildings were ultimately demolished in the 1970’s. - Date of Original
