The Richelieu & Ontario Navigation Co. was established in 1875. In 1913 Richelieu & Ontario Navigation merged with several other steamboat companies including Niagara Navigation and the Hamilton Steamboat Lines to become Canada Steamship Lines.

Canada Steamship Lines sold its last passenger ship in 1965.
