The steamship Lakeside provided passenger service between Toronto and Port Dalhousie starting in 1892. Lakeside Navigation Co. was the operator until the company was purchased by the steamship subsidiary of the Niagara, St. Catharines & Toronto Railway. By 1911 passenger traffic had increased to such an extent that the 348 ton Lakeside couldn’t keep up with demand and was replaced by the 1 256 ton Dalhousie City.
