The "Dalhousie City" was operated by the Niagara, St. Catharines & Toronto Railway.
The steam ship “Dalhousie City” was built to transport visitors to Lakeside Park from Toronto and Hamilton. It was launched in 1911 due to the increased demand of passenger traffic on Lake Ontario. It replaced the smaller “Lakeside” and undertook all service in 1916 when “Garden City” was withdrawn. In 1949 The "Northumberland" burned reducing the N S & T Steamers to one. The last run between Toronto and Niagara was in 1950 after which the “Dalhousie City” was sold to a firm in Montreal.
The ship moored on the left is a "Great Lakes canaller." These types of ships came into use around the time of the 3rd Welland Canal. "Canallers" had a unique cigar-shaped outline, with a blunt bow, and forward wheelhouse. These features were influenced by the shape and dimensions of the locks. - Date of Original
