Lewis (Louis) Shickluna was born June 26th, 1808 in Malta. He immigrated to New York City in 1824 and came to Lincoln in 1836.
Louis Shickluna originally operated out of the Armington yard, which he purchased in 1836. When the 2nd Welland Canal opened Shickluna established another shipyard on 12 Mile Creek, between Locks 2 and 3, in the early 1840's. He also established a drydock beside Lock 3 of the 2nd Welland Canal in the 1860s. His shipyards built over 150 ships.
He died on April 24th, 1880 and was buried in Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
