Born on Nov. 14th, 1839, Janet Carnochan attended Niagara Public School and high school. She went on to study at Toronto Normal School and became a teacher.
She taught in Brantford, Peterborough, and Kingston before returning to teach in Niagara. After retiring in 1900 Janet Carnochan wrote “History of Niagara,” which came out in 1914.
She was also a founding member of the Niagara Historical Society and was its president until her death in 1926. - Date of Original
