Central School was a public school. In the 1850’s it was called St. George’s Ward School however, after a large renovation in 1872 it was renamed Central School. The building was demolished in 1955 and the property was sold to the Separate School Board. St. Nicholas Catholic Elementary School was built on the site in 1956.
St. Nicholas was a Catholic school. Constructed in 1857, St. Nicholas began as a four room school and was replaced by an eight room school in 1887. The building was demolished in 1967 and the Monsignor A.E. McQuillen Centre was later built on the site. It connects St. Nicholas Catholic Elementary School and Ecole Immaculee Conception.
