He graduated from the University of Toronto as both a Civil Engineer and an Ontario Land Surveyor in 1950
He began his career as a consulting engineer at C.R. Hagey Engineering, then became the Engineer for the Town of Fort Erie, Engineer for Welland County and finally at the Niagara Region as a Systems Engineer in Roadways and the Water and Pollution Control Divisions from where he retired in 1988
