The clue is the notation "Sta 554". The canal was marked in stations, or location markers, along its length. In P.J. Cowan's "The Welland Ship Canal 1913 - 1933", we are told that Station 540 is at Beaver Board Company's dock. The double stack at the upper right are the stacks of Beaver Board Company. So the location of this photograph is just south of the company dock.
