The land for Pearson Park was formerly land used by the Federal Department of Agriculture as an experimental station. On November 3, 1967 the land was leased from the Federal Government by the City of St. Catharines for a dollar a year and dedicated as Pearson Park. Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson visited the city for the dedication.

During the visit, Mayor Robert Johnston presented the Prime Minister with a City Centennial Medallion.
