Survived by his sisters Helen, Mary, Cathy, Elly, Freda, Eve and Bertha.
He graduated in medicine in 1964 from the University of Manitoba.
He became a respected endocrinologist and internationally known researcher with a Ph.D. from Queen's University, residency at McGill and finally a research scholarship at Harvard University's Joslin Institute.
He was chair of Nutrition at McMaster University.
He became Chief of Endocrinology and director of the Diabetes Centre at McMaster University Medical Centre.
