(father); In May 1845 he was appointed Postmaster at St. Catharines; Appointed by a vote of Parliament in 1860 to a position known as Archivist. He collected 10, 000 pages of historical matter as put upon record by the pioneers in Canada prior and subsequent to the Revolutionary War.; A poem he wrote as a memento of the Visit of the Duke of Kent to Canada received distinct acknowledgement by the Prince of Wales, His Grace the Duke of Newcastle, and Earl St. Germans.; Was a strong advocate of the metric system and strongly supported it's use in schools in Canada
