The Canada Hair Cloth Company was started by James and Hugh McSloy in 1888. It was built on the site of John Gibson's Woolen Mill & Dolphin Manufacturing Co. The mill expanded in 1910-11. It closed in 2007 and was expropriated by the city of St. Catharines in 2009. In 2012 the site was transferred to Brock University and in 2015 opened as the Marilyn I.
